Christchurch in New Zealand has been hit by an earthquake. US Geological Survey has said an earthquake measuring 7.4. at 04:32 Sat 4 September. Christchurch is New Zealand’s second largest city, declared a state of emergency.

The quake, about 55 kilometers (34 miles) west-northwest of the city and at a depth of 12 kilometers. Christchurch bringing down power lines, ripping up roads and wrecking building facades, but authorities reported no deaths. New Zealand experiences more than 14,000 earthquakes a year.

The last deadly earthquake was in 1968, when a 7.1-magnitude tremor killed three people. Several regions have reported Water and sewage issues. the council said: “the hospital is operating on generator power.”
