Japan Airlines are working on a plan to reform the airline’s global workforce . Japan Airlines has announced that its aims to eliminate more than 16,000 positions. The plan is to reduce staff from 2009 levels of around 49,000 to around 32,000 by the end of the tax year.

The airline faild under a mountain of debt. The plans have been submitted to Tokyo District Court. Chairman Kazuo Inamori told: “This revitalization plan is the start of the rebirth of JAL.” Japan Airlines is part of the One World alliance which includes other major airlines like British Airways and American Airlines. The company filed for bankruptcy protection on 19 January.
