GM is getting a new CEO Daniel Akerson. Daniel Francis Akerson is a Managing Director of The Carlyle Group and is Co-Head of the U.S. Buyout fund. He is also a director of American Express.

On August 12, 2010 it was announced that Akerson will be the heir of Ed Whitacre as CEO of General Motors, starting September 1, 2010 and will also assume the Chairman of the Board position on January 1, 2011. On September 1, 2010 he will succeed Edward Whitacre as CEO of General Motors.

General Motors said it would replace its chief executive. GM said Mr Daniel Akerson, a 61-year-old director known for his work as a telecommunications dealmaker, will take over as CEO, starting on September 1. Dan Akerson is already working with the Obama administration.
